DAYS MT. KILIMANJARO- MARANGU ROUTE
It takes about 5 days to climb Kilimanjaro, which is the highest
mountain in Africa and one of the largest extinct volcanoes. Any
physically fit person can climb it. No climbing experience is necessary.
The mountain climb can be in any month except during long rains
in April and May. The best months are January to March and August
to October usually with cloudless days. There are two peaks: Mawenzi-5149m
and Kibo–5895m.
DAY 1: Boards shuttle bus from Nairobi at 0800 hrs and proceed
to Arusha arriving at 1300hrs. Depart for Moshi at 1400hrs arriving
at 1530hrs. Dinner and overnight at a hotel in Moshi
DAY 2: After breakfast, start the climb through fascinating rain
forests till you reach the first hut Mandara. Meals and overnight
at the hut. (9,000ft).
DAY 3: After breakfast, follow the ascending path through the alpine
– meadow. The altitude begins to change and slowdown your
pace while enjoying the flora and the view of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks.
Arrive at the Horombo Hut 12km from Mandara. Meals and overnight
at the hut. (12,520ft).
DAY 4: After breakfast, resume the climb, the landscape becomes
rugged and rocky. Lobelias begin to appear. Climb to Kibo Hut. Meals
and overnight at the hut. (15,520ft)
DAY 5: The beginning of the last ascent is made in the wee hrs
of the morning while the scree is still frozen. Climb the very steep
part of the route to GILMANS POINT (most difficult and tiring part).
UHURU PEAK is reached within an hour's walk along the crater rim.

DAY 6: Return to a hotel in Moshi. After lunch, have a good rest,
meals and overnight at your hotel.
DAY 7: After breakfast, depart for your next destination, which
is optional, either:
(a) The National Park (This can be arranged)
(b) Kilimanjaro International Airport
(c) Arusha Town
(d) Nairobi via border town Namanga.

MACHAME
ROUTE 6 NIGHTS/7 DAYS MT.KILIMAJARO
Machame route is regarded as the most scenic of the trails up Kilimanjaro.
You ascend gradually through the forest till you emerge onto the Moorland
of Shira Plateau, from which there are superb views of the Kibo Peak
and the Great Western Breach. Travellers through Machame route sleep
in TENTS. Machame route is also the most challenging / adventurous
route up Kilimanjaro.
DAY 1: Board shuttle bus from Nairobi at 0800hrs and proceed to
Arusha arriving at 13300hrs. Depart for Moshi at 1400hrs arriving
at 1530hrs. Overnight at YMCA in Moshi.
DAY 2: Transfer from YMCA to the Machame gate.From here you trek
through the lush forest to Machame hut (10,000ft). Dinner and overnight
at the campsite.
DAY 3: Leaving the forest, the path follows a steep ridge, passing
through heather and open moorlands,and crossing a ridge to reach
Shira hut (12,500ft). Dinner and overnight at the campsite.
DAY 4: You return eastwards and continue ascending through the
dry landscape before dropping again to reach Barranco Hut (13,000ft)
Dinner and overnight at the Campsite.
DAY 5: The path climbs steeply out of the Barranco Valley, crosses
the Karanga Valley, then turn north to reach Barafu hut (15,500ft).

DAY 6: A long day and an early start to reach the crater rim at
Stella Point for sunrise. Then to Uhuru Peak (19,340ft) the highest
point in Africa. Afterwards descend to Gilman’s Point and
down to Mweka hut stay overnight. Dinner and overnight at the Mweka
hut.
DAY 7: Descend passing Mweka hut to the park gate from where you
are transferred back to YMCA. Lunch, dinner and overnight at the
YMCA.
DAY 8: After breakfast, depart for your next destination, which
is optional either:
(a) The National Park (This can be arranged)
(b) Kilimanjaro International Airport
(c) Arusha Town
(d) Nairobi via Namanga border town .
